The Big 12 has announced the official times and TV designations for their conference showdowns in Week 6.

Among the matchups include the Red River Showdown, which will have some immense hype behind it as always between Texas and Oklahoma. Additionally, Texas Tech will take on Oklahoma State, and TCU travels to Lawrence to take on the rising Kansas Jayhawks.

Week 6 will bring some wild showdowns, living up to what’s already been a tremendous season inside the conference. There’s no doubt that’ll continue with games like the aforementioned on the schedule.

Joey McGuire wants to continue Texas-Texas Tech series in future after Longhorns leave Big 12

Potentially for the last time, Texas Tech hosted Texas at Jones AT&T Stadium on Saturday. With the Longhorns heading off to the SEC, there may not be another matchup in Lubbock again unless there are nonconference matchups scheduled. For now, the folks in Austin don’t seem as keen on those games as those out west, like Joey McGuire.

After the win on Saturday, you can definitely count the Texas Tech head coach as one of the people who wants to see the rivalry between the two programs he continued.

McGuire did troll the Longhorns a bit when discussing the idea, saying he understands why they don’t want to after the loss. But in Lubbock, they’re in favor of seeing Texas on the football field in the future.

“We should (continue it),” McGuire said. “There’s a reason they don’t want to, and it happened today. … We want to play that game.”

The first game played between Texas and Texas Tech was back in 1928 and overall, it’s been dominated by the Longhorns. Of the 71 matchups, 54 have been in favor of the state’s flagship school, with the Red Raiders earning just 17. But of course, the last one is all that matters so advantage to Texas Tech.

When the SEC move was confirmed for Texas, there were rumors of a long-term agreement with Texas Tech to continue the series. However, nothing was ever made official as both schools’ nonconference schedules remain in question.

If they do continue to play in the future, both will have different benefits. Texas Tech will get to face off against someone they consider a rival, while Texas gets another in-state game on an annual basis. In a vacuum, it works for the two programs.
