Teen caught on video throwing rock and breaking window and is arrested

BEDFORD – A teen was arrested Sunday afternoon after Bedford Police officers received a report of property damage at the State Farm Apartment building at 1705 M Street.

Officers responded to the call at 4:33 p.m. officer went to Hardees to meet with the caller. The caller reported he had a video of a male juvenile attempting to break out the window of an apartment and he wished to file charges.

The teen was not successful the first time. The video then shows the teen breaking the window on the north side of the rental property.

When officers went to the apartment building they saw the broken window and the rock used sitting inside the screen of the window.

The property owner didn’t have a cost on what it would be to replace the window saying he would have to contact a contractor but estimated it would be approximately $2,000.

Meanwhile, officers contacted the 13-year-old juvenile’s mother and requested she contact the officers when the teen returned home.

Approximately an hour later, the officers were alerted the teen was near 22nd and K streets. As officers approached the area they spotted the teen walking into a wood line located on the southeast side of Green Hill Cemetery. The teen was located near 18th Street between J and K streets and detained.

The teen was transported to the Bedford Police Department. His mother was contacted and she arrived at the station. Both waived their rights and the teen admitted to throwing the rock and breaking the window. He told police it took two tries and then after breaking the window he ran to a friend’s house on 24th Street and asked his friend to give him a change of clothes, “so he would not be identified from the clothing he was wearing prior”.

The Lawrence County Probation Department was contacted and the child was issued a summons to appear in court on October 12, 2022 at 9 a.m. and released to his mother.
