At least 8 killed in 6 weekend crashes in Mississippi
Multiple people were killed in separate crashes over the weekend.
The Mississippi Highway Patrol was called about 8 p.m. Sunday to Highway 184 in Franklin County, where a 2015 Kia Sorrento hit 62-year-old James Jenkins, of Fayette. Jenkins was pronounced dead at the scene.
MHP officials said John H. Rankin, 75, 0f Pattison, was driving east on Highway 28 in Copiah County at about 6 p.m. Sunday when his 2001 Dodge Durango collided with a westbound 2000 Ford F-350. Rankin was killed. No other injuries were reported.
At about 8 a.m. Sunday, Kiara Shannon, 29, of Hazlehurst, was driving on Highway 28, when the car ran off the road, overturned, and she was ejected.
Shannon died from her injuries.
A woman was killed in a crash in Adams County.
MHP said around 9 p.m. Saturday, an SUV on Highway 61 collided with another SUV that was trying to turn off of the highway onto Kingston Road.
Virginia Malone, 56, of Centreville, died on the scene.
A third crash killed four people in Issaquena County.
MHP said there was a head-on collision just before midnight Saturday on Highway 61.
Troopers said Thomas Williams Jr., 39, of Jackson, and Kamille Smith, 43, of Cleveland, collided.
Both drivers had a teen passenger who were also killed.
