After getting activated on Sept. 2, Blake Treinen only made two appearances for the Los Angeles Dodgers before going back on the 15-day injured list with right shoulder tightness.
Shortly after the injury, Treinen said he was improving and that his shoulder wasn’t bothering him as he continued to throw. There was hope he could be activated on Sept. 22, but that was delayed. Treinen has not bounced back as hoped following recent throwing sessions, so the team decided to shut him down for a few days.
The 34-year-old now is scheduled to begin throwing again when the Dodgers head to San Diego, according to Bill Plunkett of the Southern California News Group, but with just nine games remaining before the postseason, Treinen may not have enough time to build-up his arm for the National League Division Series:
Treinen said he is not scheduled to resume a throwing program until Tuesday in San Diego, making his status for the rest of the regular season and the postseason very much in question.
Treinen has only made five appearances this season while pitching to a 1.80 ERA and 0.40 WHIP in five innings. He missed nearly five months while recovering from a partial tear in his right shoulder that was initially believed would require season-ending surgery.
However, because scar tissue quickly developed, Treinen avoided surgery and opted to rehab the injury. “That gave me the miracle I needed,” Treinen said after being reinstated from the 60-day IL.
The Dodgers and Treinen have maintained the shoulder tightness is not related to the capsule injury.

Even if Treinen is unable to return during the final nine games of the regular season, manager Dave Roberts said he still would be included on the Dodgers postseason roster should health permit.
