A truck driver suffered a medical emergency early Sunday before crashing through a guardrail on Interstate 280 East in Morris County and ending up on the wrong side of the highway, authorities said.

The crash occurred shortly after 6 a.m. in the eastbound lanes of I-280 East near milepost 0.5 in Parsippany, according to State Police.

“Preliminary investigation revealed that a Freightliner box truck was traveling east on I-80 locals’ exit 47A onto I-280 east when it is believed that the driver suffered a medical emergency,” state police Sgt. Alejandro Goez said in an email.

“The truck traveled off the left side of the ramp and across the curbed median,” Goez said.

The truck then crossed all lanes of I-280 East and entered the center median, where it crashed through the guardrail before coming to a rest on I-280 West, Goez said.

The driver’s condition was not immediately available Monday. No other injuries were reported and the crash remains under investigation, state police said.
