Blue Ridge Medical Center (BRMC) has cut the ribbon and opened its doors to the newly-established Appomattox office, located at 624 Jones St. on Monday morning.
BRMC said it has been working alongside the Virginia Health Care Foundation (VHCF) to open the brand-new building which provides even more access to health care in Appomattox.
They have also been awarded a grant by the VCHF to help support a Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) position. This grant will enable BRMC to provide additional access to primary care health services to patients utilizing the Appomattox health center site. The grant will be in effect for a total of three years.
“Debbie Williams, former Chief Operating Officer for Blue Ridge Medical Center, was instrumental in making it possible to establish our health services in Appomattox and then to find a larger space for accommodating our patients. We’re thrilled to recognize and honor her by dedicating this new space in her name,” Peggy Whitehead, former CEO of Blue Ridge Medical Center stated.
BRMC’s current CEO Rick Shinn added, “Being able to move into a larger building in Appomattox is what we’ve been working towards. We’re excited to meet and work with the community on their health care needs in ways it couldn’t be done before. The Virginia Health Care Foundation has worked closely with us to ensure that we’re providing the best care possible to our existing and new patients.”
“The growth of BRMC is a phenomenon to behold, from what was originally not much more than a single storied double-wide, to what it is today – a full-service community health center in Arrington and Amherst that now extends to Appomattox. BRMC success – the three A’s in community in health care – Arrington, Amherst, and Appomattox,” stated Andrew Hodson, MD., Board President of Blue Ridge Medical Center.
