WEST CITY, Ill. (KFVS) - Human remains found in a wooded area in Franklin County have been identified.

According to West City police, the remains were identified as 35-year-old Ryan Halaska of West Frankfort.

They say Halaska was last seen in the area where the remains were found at around 3 p.m. on September 7.

An autopsy was performed on Thursday morning, Sept. 29 in O’Fallon, Ill. and the results are pending.

Police say foul play is not suspected at this time.

According to West City police, someone called just after 7:30 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 25 to report remains found in the 900 block of West Washington Street.

West City Police, Illinois State Police Crime Scene Investigators and the Franklin County Coroner’s Office responded to the area.
