Very high fire danger has returned to parts of Central and North Texas this week.

All of Dallas County and most of Tarrant County are now in the "very high" range as determined by the Texas A&M Forest Service. The swath of counties rated "very high" runs from Grayson and Fannin counties along the Red River southward through Dallas-Fort Worth and then into the Waco and Austin areas.

The Forest Service says the lack of rainfall for several weeks combined with last week's temperatures in the 90s have slowly dried out the fuels on the ground. Plus, we're seeing very dry air behind Sunday's cold front which will only increase the pace of drying this week.
