A suspected impaired driver who fled into the woods when Lincoln Parish deputies arrived at a crash scene was arrested after a short chase Wednesday afternoon.
Deputy D Johnston of Lincoln Parish Sheriff’s Department responded to a single vehicle crash on Byas Road near White Lightning Road (La. 146) early Wednesday afternoon. Deputy Johnston found the vehicle about 40 yards from the roadway and was informed the driver was Carl D. Lafargue who had fled into the woods when he saw the deputy arrive.
Johnston located Lafargue in the woods and issued verbal commands to stop but he refused and continued to run. Deputy Johnson gave additional commands to stop, or Lafargue would be tased. The suspect then stopped and was handcuffed.
When asked why he ran, Lafargue, 37, stated because he did not want to go to jail. When I asked why he would go to jail, Lafargue stated he was drunk. He was taken to the Lincoln Parish Detention Center where he performed poorly on a series of field sobriety tests. He then submitted to a breath test which indicated a blood alcohol concentration of 0.172g%, over twice the legal limit.
He was booked with operating a vehicle while intoxicated and resisting an officer. Bail was set at $2000.
