The Thunderbirds wrapped up the day with a total of 12 points and ultimately rounded out the 11-team field.

The 2022 Downriver Classic champion was Wyandotte Roosevelt (301) while Gibraltar Carlson (215) was next in second place, just ahead of third-place Allen Park (214.5).

Roosevelt became the first team other than Trenton to ever win the Downriver Classic, which was known as the News-Herald Invitational up until the 2016-17 school year. In addition, Riverview became the first team other than Allen Park to serve as host for the Downriver Classic.

On Saturday, Edsel picked up eight points at the meet with a ninth-place finish in the 200 freestyle relay. Finishing with a time of 2 minutes and 14.22 seconds was the T-Bird group of Sydney Williams, Alaina Rouleau, Charla Hamann and Ava Lackey.

Also for the Edsel squad, Hamman, Williams, Lackey and Livi Pilkins teamed up and earned four points with an 11th-place finish in the 200 medley relay (2:42.08).

Williams also placed 17th out of 28 total swimmers in the 100 freestyle (1:05.20) and she finished in 16th place in the 100 freestyle (2:26.86) out of the 26 competitors in the event.

In addition, Hamann came away with 17th place in the breaststroke (1:30.49) out of 24 total swimmers.

Next up for the T-Birds is a non-league dual meet on Tuesday night and they will welcome in the Erie Mason-Ida team. The meet will be held at Unis Middle School in Dearborn at 6 p.m.

Two nights later, Edsel will return to Downriver League action and will travel to Wyandotte for a dual meet at Roosevelt at 6 p.m.
