PITTSBURGH — Summer violence on Pittsburgh’s South Side is spilling into the fall.
“It’s really frustrating and it makes me feel not as safe being around here, like our peace was disrupted in the neighborhood,” said Kari Exler, who woke up Monday morning to push alerts and notifications about gunfire on her block overnight.
Pittsburgh police received a ShotSpotter alert for 12 rounds fired just before 1 a.m. Monday along S. 18th Street near Harcum Way.
Officers say no one was hurt.
Investigators say two cars were hit, but 11 News counted at least three: a silver SUV police were checking out overnight plus black and blue sedans our crew found once the sun came up.
It’s unclear what sparked the violence, but police say three people were arrested at the scene for obstructing their investigation.
The incident comes amid a push by the mayor, police department and local business owners to reduce violence on the South Side.
But Exler says it’s not working and questions whether she wants to continue living there.
“If people who are supposed to be enforcing it don’t feel safe enforcing it, there’s a larger problem at hand, and I think that’s what we’re seeing,” she said.
