PEORIA, Ill. — You’ve probably noticed a jump in gas prices over the weekend.
AAA-Illinois says the state average for regular unleaded gas is $3.97, but in the Peoria-Pekin metro area, prices are as high as $4.39 a gallon at some stations.
AAA says local average price is much lower though at $3.83 a gallon. A week ago, it was $3.77.
“In an industry like ours where everyone sees what the prices are out in front of the store, it’s difficult to envision a situation where it would be to anyone’s advantage to gouge on prices because consumers are just going to go elsewhere,” said Illinois Fuel and Retail Association Director Joshua Sharp.
The national average price for regular unleaded gasoline is $3.72 a gallon.
