While vintage is becoming increasingly popular for stars attending high-profile parties and premieres, red carpet re-wears are still a relatively rare occurrence. Thankfully, the likes of Cate Blanchett are looking to change all that – with the actor opting to re-wear a vintage black sequin jumpsuit by Giorgio Armani for the Camera Nazionale della Moda Italiana’s Sustainable Fashion Awards in Milan on Sunday night, which she paired with dazzling crystal earrings from Aquazzura.

Blanchett first wore the jumpsuit from the Italian brand’s autumn/winter 2012 collection while celebrating her Best Actress win at Venice Film Festival earlier this month. It’s not the first time she’s championed repeat looks on the red carpet: back in 2019, the actor brought back an Armani Privé gown she debuted at the 2014 Golden Globes for the opening ceremony of Cannes Film Festival.

The following year, the actor brought out a series of repeat looks during Venice Film Festival, including an Esteban Cortazar sequin gown that she first wore at the London premiere of Carol in 2015 and a reworked Alexander McQueen top that she wore at the 2016 BAFTA awards. On that occasion, Blanchett decided to auction off her outfit repeats to raise money for UN Women and Facing History and Ourselves, allowing the pieces to have another life.

“It’s chic to repeat,” the actor’s stylist Elizabeth Stewart said at the time. “In [Blanchett’s] words, beautiful things can come out of sustainability!” With the actor launching a new climate podcast, Climate of Change, earlier this year and also serving as an ambassador for The Earthshot Prize, we couldn’t agree more.
