Forbes Hospital in Monroeville is a site for cancer screenings.

Cancer screenings

Allegheny Health Network Cancer Institute’s new comprehensive cancer screening clinic offers the opportunity to complete a full slate of cancer screening tests in one visit.

Screenings for seven cancers will be offered, and depending on which are selected, can be completed in as little as an hour. Eligibility for screenings depends on age, gender and other factors.

The screenings are offered on Fridays at AHN Cancer Institute at Forbes Hospital, 2626 Haymaker Road Monroeville, and AHN West Penn Hospital, Mellon Pavilion, Suite 340.

Screenings are available for the following cancers: breast (ages 40 and up), cervical (ages 21-65), colorectal (ages 45 and up), head and neck (ages 18 and up), lung (ages 50-80 with history of smoking), prostate (ages 45 and up); and skin (ages 18 and up)

Enrollment is open to AHN and non-AHN patients. Insurance coverage is required. To make an appointment, call 412-888-AHN2 (2462).

Run for Rescue

Shelters Helpers of Pittsburgh and Monroeville Animal Shelter are hosting the second annual Run for Rescue from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 9 at Monroeville Community Park West, 2399 Tilbrook Road.

The benefit 5K run and 1-mile dog walk raises money to help animal rescues and shelters in the Pittsburgh area. In addition to the race there will be food, music, vendors, doggy ice cream, kids’ activities and more, and local rescues will be bringing dogs available for adoption.

Shelters Helpers was formed in 2017 to assist local shelters and rescues in the Pittsburgh area, through social media campaigns, fundraisers, volunteer work, fostering, payments towards vet bills and other forms of assistance. Every dollar raised goes to a rescue or shelter.
