Thursday night, West High School honored late legendary football coach, Dallas Grider, by changing their field name to Dallas Grider field. Dallas Grider is considered by many to be the greatest football coach to ever come through West High School. He coached the Vikings from 1977-1984, finishing with a record of 77-7-2, winning three valley championships.
"He started at this school, and his name is going to finish at this school,” Dallas Grider’s daughter, Amber Grider said. “This is where his name lands for the rest of eternity, and I think he's looking down and he's very proud."
Dallas Grider passed away in May of 2022.
"It's a very touching moment because he was such a huge impact not just on our lives, but other people's lives," Chad Grider said.
Grider’s loved ones, as well as former coaches, teammates, and players were all in attendance at the ceremony, which happened before the West High School Vikings faced his alma mater in the Arvin High School Bears.
