BLOOMINGTON (25 News Now) - On September 16th, an eight-year-old girl from Bloomington was killed in a fatal crash in Maryland. Saturday, the church her family belongs to made a commitment to help her cause.

Saint Mary’s Catholic Church on Jackson Street held a fundraiser for Angelin “Angelli” Reyes Sanchez, the third-grade victim who attended Bent Elementary School. To get attendees out, family and friends set up tents where all kinds of food - from quesadillas to tortas - were sold to raise funds. All the money collected will help pay for Angelin’s funeral, as well as cover hospital expenses for her mother, also involved in the crash.

Volunteers say it felt amazing to come together for the cause, despite its tragic nature.

“It does hurt, thinking that if it happened to her, it could happen to any one of us,” says one event volunteer, Ulysses Suarez. “We think if we go out of our houses, we may not come back.”

Sanchez and her mother were ejected from the vehicle they were riding in, according to a release. Several others were also transported to the hospital for treatment, with all of the occupants of the vehicle hailing from Bloomington. Angelin’s funeral will be held September 30.
