SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, Sept. 25, 2022 (Gephardt Daily) — Police are investigating a fatal shooting at an apartment complex in Salt Lake City’s Rose Park community Sunday night.

The investigation began at 8:25 p.m. when Salt Lake City police received a call that a shooting had occurred at the Downtown West apartment complex at 718 N. 900 West.

Responding officers found a woman inside an apartment with an apparent gunshot wound, according to a news release from the Salt Lake City Police Department.

Officers started CPR on the woman until paramedics arrived and transported her to an area hospital, where she later died, police said. The shooting death becomes the 12th homicide in Salt Lake City this year.

Police spokesman Brent Weisberg said homicide detectives were working to process the scene and talking with witnesses, “trying to gather what happened here.”

The shooting does not appear to be random, police said, as the woman and two men detained by officers were known to each other. The shooting is being investigated as a potential domestic violence-related homicide, according to the news release.

Anyone with information about the shooting or those involved is asked to call Salt Lake City police at 801-799-3000 and reference case No. 22-189275.

Police say anyone experiencing domestic violence is encouraged to speak with a victim advocate by calling 801-580-7969. All services are free, and callers can get information anonymously.
