VANCOUVER - Talk about kicking things off on the right note.
Getting the earlier start of the Flames' split-squad games against the Canucks, the BC-bound roster came out with plenty of fire in Rogers Arena and left with a 3-2 overtime victory over their divisional foes.
Michael Stone scored the game-winner in the extra frame, while Dustin Wolf made 26 saves on the night.

The Flames opened the scoring at the 12:40 mark of the first period after the trio of Ben Jones, Mathias Emilio Pettersen, and Mitch McLain combined to steal the puck from the Canucks in the neutral zone and steam in on the rush. Pettersen, carrying the puck into the Canucks' zone, dished it off to McLain in the slot, who deftly backhanded it over Spencer Martin's shoulder.

Jones and McLain would combine again in the second period to give the club a 2-0 lead through 40 minutes. With under two minutes remaining in the middle stanza, Jones took a shot in the high slot, sending a rebound McLain's way. He sent a shot towards Spencer, which bounced behind the net and Jones was able to knock the puck off the netminder's back to give the Flames their second of the night.

The Canucks sent the game into overtime with two goals in the third period. Vasily Podkolzin was able to take advantage of a traffic jam in front of the net for Vancouver's first goal and Connor Garland, with the Canucks' net empty for the extra attacker, netted the equalizer when he was able to shovel in his own rebound in tight.
Stone ended the game at 3:39 of overtime, during a powerplay, when he took a perfectly-placed pass from Matthew Phillips and fired it into the yawning cage.

Wolf, who went the distance in Vancouver, was tremendous in net. He was particularly strong when the Flames were on the penalty kill, making eight saves when the team was down a man.
"He played amazing. He made really big saves when we needed," Jones said."Can't say enough good things about that guy."
