Kayla Chance Repeats Queens City Success

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – A year after setting a school record at the Queens City Open, Kayla Chance repeated her success at the same event this year finishing first in the individual race.

Chance—the defending Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) champion—led the entire field of 111 runners on Friday with a time of 19:08. In 2021, she set a new school record in the same 5k at Queens City with a time of 18:47.

Friday's meet opened the 2022 campaign for the Savannah State men's and women's cross country teams.

The Lady Tigers finished in seventh place overall out of a field of 16 teams. Simone Johnson finished in 23rd with a time of 21:11, followed by newcomers Sky Buie-Cox (21:49), Lilly Langston (25:45), Kennedi Hall (31:50) and Taylor Cooper (33:33).

The Savannah State men's cross country team finished 14th on the men's side of the Queens City Open Friday.

Veteran Erik Roberts led the Tigers with a time of 29:51. Myles Corey ran a 30:32 followed by Joseph Hale (31:11), Nyzaveon Thompson (37:17), Deashaun Logan (37:34) and Alex Loyd (40:40).

The men's and women's cross country teams continue the 2022 march on Oct. 7. They return to Charlotte for the Royal XC Challenge, also hosted by Queens City University.
