A motorcyclist died after losing control of their vehicle early Sunday in Kansas City, according to police.

Police responded around 1:22 a.m. to eastbound Interstate 70 approaching the entrance ramp for southbound Interstate 435 after a single-vehicle crash, Sgt. Jake Becchina, a spokesman for the Kansas City Police Department, said in a news release.

As a motorcyclist driving a yellow custom motorcycle approached the entrance ramp for southbound I-435, the driver lost control for unknown reasons and was ejected from the motorcycle, Becchina said.

The motorcyclist was found lying on the south side shoulder of eastbound I-70, just past the entrance ramp to I-435, police said. They were not wearing a helmet.

They were declared dead at the scene. No other vehicles appeared to be involved in the collision, Becchina said.

Two lanes of eastbound I-70 and the entrance ramp to southbound I-435 were closed for about three hours, he said.

The incident was the 70th road fatality in Kansas City this year, compared to 62 at this time last year, according to data tracked by police.
