STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Staten Islanders heading to Bayonne late Saturday night were faced with delays after a crash prompted first responders to close a portion of the Bayonne Bridge.

A brief full closure in the New Jersey lanes of the Bayonne Bridge occurred just after 10:25 p.m. when a two-car crash caused debris and vehicles to block both lanes leaving Staten Island, according to a Port Authority of New York and New Jersey spokesman.

The Port Authority Police Department had to remove both vehicles and clean debris left behind by the crash, the spokesman said.

Both lanes were closed for about 20 minutes before one lane was reopened to traffic, officials said. The full incident was cleared by about 11:10 p.m.

One person was sent to an area hospital with a minor injury, according to authorities.
