Integrity task force investigating officer-involved shooting involving Rockford teenager

ROCKFORD — The Winnebago Boone County Integrity Task Force is investigating an officer-involved shooting that took place in the basement of a home on St. Anne's Way Saturday night and left a 17-year-old boy injured.

According to Rockford police, the boy was shot by a police officer and his injury is considered not life-threatening.

The shooting took place in the 4400 block of St. Anne's Way on the city's northeast side.

According to police, officers responded to the home in reference to a domestic disturbance involving the teenager, who fled in a vehicle.

Police said while they were speaking with witnesses and family members at the home, they heard a loud crash in the basement. The boy returned, police said, and was armed with kitchen knives.

According to police, the juvenile starting approaching the officers and family members with the knives in his hands, and that one officer shot the boy with a firearm while the other officer fired at him with taser.

Police said the officers gave the boy first aid and called for an ambulance. The boy was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

The two police officers are on administrative leave.

Rockford police said any further information about the shooting will be released by the integrity task force.
