A benefit walk for a great cause took place in Mills River on Saturday.
The Western Carolina chapter of the Alzheimer's Association hosted a "Walk to End Alzheimer's" event in Henderson County.
The event aimed to raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer's care, support and research.
One organizer said the event is very important for those suffering and the community at large.
"We're making progress, but here in North Carolina we still have over 180,000 people that are affected by this disease, and over 350,000 people who care for those, those caregivers," said Denise Young, program manager for the Alzheimer's Association. "So while we are making progress, it's really important that we continue to raise funds to support that research, and all the services that are so badly needed by those families who are affected."
More than six million Americans are living with Alzheimer's disease.
