No. 5 Iowa Wins 7th Straight, Downs Ball State

MUNCIE, Ind. – Seniors Esme Gibson and Anthe Nijziel scored two goals apiece to lead the fifth-ranked University of Iowa field hockey team to a 6-1 victory over Ball State on Sunday afternoon at Briner Sports Complex.

Gibson and Nijziel both had their first multigoal games this season – Nijziel’s first multi-goal game in her career and Gibson’s second. Iowa improves to 8-1 this season and is currently on a seven-game winning streak.

Gibson scored her second goal of the game — the game winner — in the 35th minute. Less than two minutes later, Nijziel scored in the 37th and 40th minutes, both off an assist by Lieve Schalk.

Junior Alex Wesneski scored in the fourth quarter off an assist by Nijziel, and senior Lokke Stribos took advantage of a penalty stoke in the 59th minute to close out the game.

Gibson opened scoring with a goal in the third minute, unassisted, to give the Hawkeyes the early lead.

– The Hawkeyes are currently on a seven-game winning streak with their only loss being to No. 2 North Carolina in an overtime battle.
– Gibson recorded her first multi-goal game against Michigan State in 2021.
– Wesneski has a team-high 10 goals on 17 shots this season.
– The Hawkeyes racked up their sixth and seventh multi-goal games in today’s matchup.
