Kirksville woman injured after driver falls asleep, runs off road

LA PLATA, Mo. —
A northeast Missouri woman was injured overnight when the driver of the car she was riding in fell asleep at the wheel and ran off the road.

It happened at 3:20 a.m. Saturday on Highway 63, one mile south of La Plata.
State troopers say the car involved was driven by Claire Adams, 19, of Kirksville.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol's online crash report, Adams was northbound on Highway 63 and fell asleep while driving. The car veered into the median.
Adams' passenger, Rachel Ghatasheh, 21, also of Kirksville, suffered minor injuries and was taken by ambulance to Northeast Regional Medical Center in Kirksville.
Adams was not hurt.

The patrol says neither occupant was wearing a seat belt.
