The first proposition is for a voter approval tax rate election. The district is seeking approval to set its property tax rate at $1.25975 per $100 property value. If voters say yes, the district will receive an extra approximate $9 million to help with day-to-day operating expenses. If voters say no, the tax rate will be $0.0316 lower. District officials said the board of trustees will consider budget cuts to get through the fiscal year if the measure does not pass.
The tax rate for FY 2021-22 was $1.32075 per $100 valuation.
On the other four propositions, the district is seeking permission to issue nearly $1.5 billion in bonds to fund capital projects ranging from campus improvements to technology and security upgrades. District officials said there will be no change to the property tax rate if these propositions pass.
- Proposition B seeks $1.17 billion for school renovations and safety measures at campuses across the district.
- Proposition C is asking for $173.45 million for instructional technology.
- Proposition D would allow $130 million to build a new event center to be used for graduations as well as fine arts events, sporting events and other large gatherings.
- Proposition E seeks $19.21 million for safety and maintenance at the district’s existing stadiums.
PISD created a website www.pisd.edu/election2022 to help voters understand the five propositions on the ballot.
The district will also hold two virtual meetings and two in-person meetings. The hour-long presentation will be the same at each meeting.
The virtual meetings on Zoom will be at noon Sept. 27 and 6:30 p.m. Sept. 28.
Both in-person meetings will be held Oct. 6 at the Sockwell Center, 6301 Chapel Hill Blvd., Plano. The first one is at 8:30 a.m., and the second one is at 4:30 p.m.
The deadline to register to vote for the election is Oct. 11. Early voting runs from Oct. 24-Nov. 4. Election Day is Nov. 8.
