STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Somehow, a man who lives on the 700 block of Willowbrook Road slept through a thunderous crash early Tuesday morning that sent one vehicle careening windshield-first into a utility pole.

“When I woke up, I saw there was a crash across the street; there were car parts all over,” said Tim Cekovic, 26.

The man seemingly behind the wheel of a dark SUV sprung out of the vehicle seconds after it made impact with a minivan, flipped onto its side and smashed into public property around 6:30 a.m.

“There’s been accidents on my block, but not as crazy as this one,” Cekovic said Sunday after viewing surveillance footage captured by a neighbor.

The driver of the SUV appeared to have escaped serious injury, although it wasn’t immediately clear if anyone else was hurt in the crash. If not for the utility pole, the video shows the SUV likely would’ve crashed into a residential property.

An NYPD spokesperson said there was no report was on file for the date and time provided, while residents on the block say they did not remember seeing a police presence at the scene.

The same residents told the Advance/SILive.com they’re fed up with speeding drivers.

“[People] drive like crazy,” lamented one woman who lives on the block. “It’s horrible.”
