MADISON, Wis. — A fire at a business north of Madison prompted a large emergency response Saturday.

Crews from Sun Prairie, DeForest, Waunakee, Marshall, Madison and Cottage Grove were sent to the 4600 block of Dovetail Drive just after 4:15 p.m for a reported commercial fire. Black smoke could be seen from the front of the building and flames could be seen in the rear.

Sun Prairie assistant fire chief Thane Westermeyer told Fox 47 that the fire occurred inside a building. Nobody was injured and there was no structural damage, but everything inside the building was severely damaged or destroyed.

Westermeyer said multiple birds were found inside cages once the building was cleared of smoke. The birds died from the smoke and fire.

The incident caused about $100,000 in damage to the building and the contents within. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
