Kevin Wood, a professional Abraham Lincoln presenter who takes on the role of “The Great Emancipator” during his presentations, will be visiting the Irvin L. Young Memorial Library for a program titled, “The Political Lincoln: Honest Abe on Campaigns and Elections,” according to a recent press release.
The release notes: “It is commonly said that Abraham Lincoln failed numerous times to be elected to various offices until he was finally elected president.”
Wood, in his role as Lincoln, will, according to the release, “prove the absurdity of that claim, while describing his many interesting campaign and election experiences over a long and eventful career, during a time of political intrigue and tumult when the very destiny of our nation was at stake. From 1832, when a humble 23-year-old political newcomer sought his neighbors’ vote to be one of their state representatives, to 1864, when a politically savvy, incumbent president – beloved by some and hated by others – strove to unite a fractured nation, ‘Mr. Lincoln’s’ campaign and election history is educational, entertaining, and inspirational.”
The program is most appropriate for adults and older youth, and is recommended for those who are at lease 12.
The hour-long program will be followed by time for questions, photos and informal interaction, the release noted.
The program will be held at the Irvin L. Young Memorial Library, 431 W. Center St., Whitewater, in the Community Room, Thursday, Oct. 6 at 5:30 p.m.
Additionally, Wood will be at the library on Thursday, Oct. 6 at 10 a.m., at which time he will participate in a special event for the library’s “Homeschool Hangout,” developed for children ages 5 and and older. Homeschoolers are invited to attend and learn about the story of this inspirational historical figure, the release stated.
Registration is not required and the public is invited to attend these free programs.
