DETROIT (WWJ) – A 27-year-old Redford man has died after crashing into a bridge embankment on a Detroit freeway early Sunday morning.

Michigan State Police troopers were called to northbound I-75 near 8 Mile Road around 7:30 Sunday on the report of a crash.

When troopers arrived, a witness to the crash was performing CPR.

A preliminary investigation revealed the victim was driving at a high rate of speed in the left lane of the freeway when he lost control, ran off the road to the right and struck a bridge embankment.

Authorities say the driver was not wearing a seatbelt.

He was pronounced dead at the scene. The victim’s name has not been released. It was not clear whether drugs or alcohol were a factor in the crash.

The freeway was left closed for several hours but has since reopened.
