CHESTERFIELD TOWNSHIP, Mich. – A GoFundMe page was organized for the children of Jim Matthews, who was killed on Friday in his Chesterfield Township home, according to WWJ 950.

On Sept. 23, police found Matthews, whose legal name is Jim Nicolai, murdered in his condo in Chesterfield Township. Police say that a 54-year-old family friend attacked Matthews and his two children.

Ashley Quigley, the aunt of the two children who were attacked, created the page with a goal of $10,000. According to the GoFundMe page, Jim Matthews’ daughter is doing well physically, but his 10-year-old son is in critical condition.

“A 35-year-old white female had escaped with her 5-year-old daughter,” said Chesterfield police Chief Brian Bassett. “She was suffering from stab wounds at that time. Our police officers and firefighters began rendering aid. Additional officers made entry into the home, where we found a 57-year-old white male deceased.”

Officials say that the 10-year-old boy was beaten in the head with a hammer, bound and left in a closet as he tried to fight off the suspect who allegedly killed his father. His 5-year-old sister suffered from stab wounds.

The 54-year-old suspect was found in the condo’s basement with self-inflicted wounds, and police say he attempted to overdose but survived.

Quigley wrote on the GoFundMe page that she and her husband would be taking care of the 5-year-old niece and advocating for their nephew, who was forced to undergo ear and brain surgery.

There is currently no update on their mother, Matthews’ girlfriend.
