ACC football power rankings: Coastal chaos ensues as Clemson vs NC State looms

It was a weekend of Coastal chaos as five teams from the ACC's coastal division suffered losses while Clemson and NC State took home wins to set up a top 10 matchup between the two football programs next week.

Here are the USA TODAY Network's ACC power rankings:

1. Clemson (4-0, 2-0 ACC)

The Tigers remain on top, just barely, after a 51-45 double overtime win over Wake Forest. Clemson will put its nation’s best home winning streak on the line against NC State.

The Wolfpack had no trouble dispatching UConn during a 41-10 win Saturday night at home. NC State will face the Tigers next week with ESPN's College GameDay in tow.

4. Pitt (3-1, 0-0)

After a wacky week in the Coastal division, Pitt looks like the favorite to win it for the second straight year. The Panthers defeated Rhode Island 45-24.

Last week: No. 5

5. Wake Forest (3-1, 0-1)

Sometimes you fail upwards. The Demon Deacons had No. 5 Clemson on the ropes at home but couldn’t close the deal during a 51-45 double overtime loss. Wake Forest, though, is still a contender to win the Atlantic Division, it’ll just need some help.

6. Miami (2-2, 0-0)

Miami lost its second straight game to tumble down the ACC power rankings. The Hurricanes took a justifiable 17-9 loss to Texas A&M last week, but Saturday’s 45-31 loss at home to Middle Tennessee State was a headscratcher.

Last week: No. 3

7. Syracuse (4-0, 2-0)

Yes, the Orange are undefeated, but they looked less-than-impressive during a 22-20 win against a bad Virginia team. Andre Szmyt knocked in five field goals, including the 31-yard game-winner with just over a minute left, and Syracuse held off Virginia's second-half comeback to beat the Cavaliers 22-20.

Last week: No. 8

8. UNC (3-1, 0-0)

The undefeated season ended in Week 4 against Notre Dame. UNC gave up 24 points in the second quarter and never recovered.
