Spencer, Ia (KICD) – The Spencer Tigers hosted the Denison-Schleswig Monarchs for Homecoming Friday night at Dale Norton Field. This was another game where the final score doesn’t really tell the story.

Spencer would jump out to a 6-0 lead after a punt was blocked and Caleb Kline jumped on it in the endzone. The Tigers would then make it a 14-0 lead when Cambpell Wessels ran it is from 38 yards out, the 2 point conversion was good. The Tigers would then put together a 12 play 54 yard drive, capped off by a 25 yard passing touchdown connection of Riley DeWitt and Eli Hookfin, giving Spencer a 21-0 lead.

Denison-Schleswig would respond, putting together a 7 play 66 yard drive in only 1:10, finding the endzone when Luke Weibers connected with Easton Emory in the endzone. The teams went in to the locker room with Spencer leading 21-7.

After a 3rd quarter flew by with no points, The Tigers would find the endzone again. This time, on a fourth down conversion, Campbell Wessels would take the ball on a pitch then whip it 16 yards in to the endzone, connecting with Izak Peters to give Spencer a 28-7 lead.

Denison-Schleswig would sneak in a quick touchdown drive before time expired, but it wasn’t enough to change the final score, as the Tigers win their fourth straight, 28-14.

The Tiger Defense was able to apply a lot of pressure on Denison-Schleswig Quarterback Luke Weibers. Coach Tighe said they liked the matchup head of the game.

Campbell Wessels had a big night. He carried the ball 7 times for 72 yards, had an interception, and a passing touchdown.

Jaxon Hildebrand led the way for Denison-Schleswig with 55 yards on 11 carries and a touchdown.

The Tigers will be at home next week against Fort Dodge in Class 4A District 1 play.

KICD’s Matt Groenewald was in Ruthven for Friday’s Regional Game of the Week. It featured #9 GTRA hosting West Bend-Mallard.

West Bend-Mallard would jump out to a lead first, scoring on a 12 play 56 yard drive when Max Fehr ran it in from 18 yards away. GTRA would answer with a couple of Max Hough touchdwons, one a 44 yard big run, and the other from 39 yards, giving the Titans a 14-8 lead. West Bend-Mallard would take the led after another Mx Fehr rushing touchdown, but then Max Hough matched it with his 3rd touchdown of the 1st half to make the score 22-16. GTRA would outscore West Bend-Mallard 16-8 in the second half to come away with a 38-24 win. Coach Hough was happy to see his defense make an adjustment at halftime.

Max Hough had a huge night, rushing for 259 yards and 4 touchdowns, while also throwing for 146 yards. Max Fehr gave the Titans all they could handle, with 100 yards on the ground and 2 scores.

GTRA improves to 5-0 and will play Harris Lake Park Next week. West Bend-Mallard falls to 3-2 nd match up with North Iowa next week.
