Corrie is the only one that’s ever had over 20 million on single viewing ( i.e excluding repeats and omnibus figures ). Emmerdale was occasionally getting figures of up to 17 million in the late 1970s. So they’re wrong on both counts.

If you include non-UK soaps, the episode revealing who shot JR in Dallas got 21.5 million.

Yes,I said on single viewing. It got around 19 million on Christmas Day itself. The figure given here includes the omnibus repeat.

EastEnders and Neighbours viewing figures were combined figures from the two broadcasts that week. Neighbours lunchtime and evening and EE evening and the old Sunday afternoon omnibus. So the ratings weren’t for a single viewing but rather a combined viewership of a single episode.
