Allegedly fighting with police…causing at least one injury…has led to an Iowa City man’s arrest.
Iowa City Police say they encountered 33-year-old Christopher Williams of Amhurst Street drinking from an open container of alcohol outside H Bar on South Van Buren Street just before 3am Sunday. Williams allegedly refused to provide an ID and refused commands to dump out his drink.
As Williams was being placed under arrest, he allegedly began swinging at police with his elbows and forearms, declaring, “Bitch, I’ll beat your ass!” At least one officer suffered a minor injury.
Williams is charged with two counts of Interference With Official Acts and one count each of Assault on Persons In Certain Occupations, Interference With Official Acts Causing Bodily Injury, Public Intoxication, Harassment of A Public Official, and Having and Open Container of Alcohol in Public. If convicted on all counts, he faces a maximum of 29 months in jail.
