HANOVER, N.H. – The Dartmouth women's rugby team rolled to a 41-10 victory over Quinnipiac Saturday afternoon at Brophy Field in their home opener. The win marked the Big Green's 11th consecutive and their fourth straight in the all-time series with the Bobcats.
Six different Big Green players found the try zone while
Sophie Ragg paced the Dartmouth attack, scoring twice in the all-around effort.
Abbey Savin was good for three conversions.
"I'm very proud of our squad today; we really played to our individual and collective strengths," head coach
Katie Dowty said. "Today we saw glimmers of our full potential this season and it left us very excited for the weeks ahead. We were especially pleased with the standard and energy our players played with off the bench."
Kristin Bitter opened the scoring with her first try of the season and Ferridge followed soon after with one of her own, bringing the score to 10-0. Savin's ensuing conversion put the Big Green up a dozen. Extending the early advantage,
Nyah Cordero found a seam and busted a long run down the middle of the field, outrunning a host of Bobcats on her way to pay dirt. Savin was true again following Cordero's scamper. Ragg's back-to-back tries closed the first half and handed Quinnipiac a 29-5 halftime deficit, which proved to be insurmountable.
Nicole Ihensekhien scored the first of Dartmouth's two second-half tries and Savin followed with another successful conversion. The visitors answered to bring the score to 36-10.
Sophia Haley's first of the season wrapped up the scoring and delivered the final 41-10 margin.
The Big Green, now 2-0 on the season, carry their momentum into a showdown with Army West Point next Saturday at Brophy Field in a rematch of last season's NIRA Final. Kickoff is slated for 1 p.m.
