Roundup: Rosecrans, Zanesville get boys soccer wins

COLUMBUS — Grady Labishak kicked a pair of goals as visiting Rosecrans emerged with a 3-1 win against Columbus Ready in a nonleague match on Saturday.

Labishak also had the assist on Evan Tolliver's goal, while Steven Porter assisted on one of Labishak's. Porter also had seven saves at goal.

Rosecrans improved to 7-4-0 and and plays at West Muskingum at 7:45 p.m. on Thursday. Ready, from the Central Catholic League, slipped to 3-7-1.

Zanesville 3, Cambridge 1: Jameson Rosser scored twice for the Blue Devils in a nonleague match with rival Bobcats at John D. Sulsberger Memorial Stadium.

Connor Baldwin also scored for the Blue Devils, who play at Licking Heights on Thursday.

Granville Christian 2, Morgan 0: Landen Pound scored a goal in each half for the the host Lions (6-4-1) in a nonleague win at the Evans Athletic Complex.

Pound, a midfielder, had eight of GCA's 18 shots on goal. Morgan had 15 shots on goal — Braylon Miller had seven — but never solved Lions keeper Jayden Leija, who recorded the shutout.

Logan Raines had 16 saves for Morgan (5-4-0).

John Glenn 2, Lancaster Fairfield Union 2: The Muskies (7-1-2) and Falcons (5-4-2) played to a tie in a nonleague match in New Concord. No details were reported.

Logan 5, Maysville 0: The Chieftains blanked the visiting Panthers in a nonleague match.

Maysville, with two straight losses, slipped to 9-2-0. No details were reported.

Boys Golf

Perry Countians shine at Southeast District Open: Sheridan's Reed Coconis fired a 77 as the Generals finished second of 22 teams at the Zane Trace Invitational at Chillicothe Jaycees.

Sheridan's 339 was one shot better than third-place Circleville (340) and five shots better than fourth-place Crooksville (344) and Athens (344). The Ceramics were the highest placing Division III team in the field.

Cael Dowdell added 81, Blake Turnes 90 and Cooper Winders 91 for Sheridan, which returns to Jaycees for Division II sectional play on Tuesday. Two teams and two individuals from nonqualifying teams advance to the district at Crown Hill.

Bo White's 80 led Crooksville, which also featured Vaughn Childress at 83, Cooper Watts at 87 and Tucker Watts at 94. The Ceramics return to Jaycees on Wednesday for its sectional, where five teams and individuals from nonqualifying teams advance to the district at Portsmouth Elks Country Club.

New Lexington, which will be at Jaycees with Sheridan for the sectional, shot 421 as Brody Agriesti had 96, Caden Gibson 100, Drew Barnette 109 and Hunter Heavener 116.

Marietta, a Division I school, leaned on medalist A.J. Graham's 75 to take the title with 316. Grayson Herb added 76, Owen Heslop 79 and Liam Ritter 86.

Rosecrans win MSL title: Charlie Peterson shot 79 for medalist honors and Weston Hartman added 80, as the Bishops shot 346 to repeat as Mid-State League-Cardinal Division Tournament champions on Friday at Denison Golf Club.

Nathan Hart added 90 and Evan Bauer 96. Both placed in the top 10.

Rosecrans finished 20-8 in dual matches and plays in Division II sectional play on Sept. 28 at Cambridge Country Club.

Cross Country

Sheridan teams second at Lancaster: Tate Ruthers was second overall and Nora Covey fourth, as the Generals' boys and girls teams posted runner-up finishes in the Division II/III races at the Bob Reall Invitational at Lancaster High School.

In the eight-team boys race, Ruthers was clocked at 16:23.7, trailing only champion Marcus Runkle, of Fairfield Union, who finished at 15:48.5. There were 89 runners in the field

Simon Conrad was ninth (17:13.8) and John Skinner 10th (17:19.3) for Sheridan, which finished 21 points behind champion Fairfield Union (53). Raine Rodich was 15th (17:59.6) and Isaiah Brown 17th (18:08.5).

Morgan's Cody Young was 18th (18:11.7), John Glenn's Ian Davis 24th (18:29.4) and Ethan Zell 48th (20:30.7) and Morgan's Clark Smith 58th (21:57).

Covey was fourth (20:40) and Addi Smith fifth (20:51) to pace the Generals to a runner-up finish in the Division II/III race at the Bob Reall Invitational at Lancaster High School.

Grace Householder was ninth (21:42), Jenna Stewart 14th (22:02) and Reese Thieken 34th for Sheridan, which finished 24 points behind champion Fairfield Union (36).

John Glenn was third with 83 points as Brea Wilfong was sixth (20:58.1), Waverly Yuro 19th (22:16.6), Grace Lawrence 20th (22:26.4) and Mackenzie Welch 24th (22:54.8).

Fairfield Union's Anna Conrad was overall champion in 19:59.3.

Crookville's Sheets strong at Rio: Crooksville freshman Hannah Sheets was 24th of 185 runners in the girls race at the Patty Forgey Invitational at Rio Grande.

Sheets cocked in 21:59.5, just outside of the top 10. Cabel Midland freshman Savannah Pritt was first in 19:26.3, one of three Midland runners in the top five and five in the top 10.

Angelina Wood was 58th (23:52.9) and Grace Sheets 81st (24:45) for Crooksville, which placed 14th of 21 teams.

Dawson Dyer was 179th of 268 runners in 22:58.5 to lead the Ceramics in the boys race. Denver Dyer was 211th (23:52.2) and Nathan Dyer 212th (23:52.3).

Reedsville Eastern's Connor Nolan won the race in 16:14.0, while Baltimore Liberty Union's Teddy Jencson was second in 16:19.7.

Croziers top 10 to lead Tri-Valley: Taylor Crozier was seventh in the girls race and Dalton Crozier 10th in the boys to lead Tri-Valley at the Pickerington Central Tiger Invitational.

Taylor Crozier, a sophomore, finished in 20:42.2, just outside of the top five. Champion Amber Carter, of Pickerington Central, finished in 19:32.1.

Braylie Burkey was 28th (23:52.8) and Kelcie Hopper 45th (25:28.0) for Tri-Valley, which didn't field a full team.

Dalton Crozier, a sophomore, finished at 18:00.0 and was the only underclassman in the top 10 as the Scotties were sixth of six teams. Central's Andrew Scrape won the meet in 16:49.6.

William Dearing was 45th (19:49.0), Ethan Dusenberry 69th (21:43.8) and Ben Kennedy 79th (22:19.3) for Tri-Valley. Aidan Miller was 100th (24:53.1).

NL's Miller leads area runners at Heath: Zander Miller was 68th (19:27.4) of 169 runners for New Lexington in the boys race at the Don Hardin Invitational at Heath High School.

Eli McCord was 131st (22:05.9) and Cole Furbee 156th (24:34.8) for the Panthers, who didn't field a full team.

Zanesville's Nick Caldwell was 95th (20:27.4) and Kameron Dunn 103rd (20:42.3), which didn't have a full team.

Philo was 13th of 13 teams behind Julian Boylan's 128th place finish in 22:00. A.J. Layton was 137th (23:02.6).

Agin 7th at Caldwell: West Muskingum sophomore Jacob Agin ran to a seventh-place finish to pace the Tornadoes at the Caldwell Fall Classic.

Agin, who clocked at 18:10.9, was the only Tornado in the field among 42 runners.

Ben Shields, of St. Clairsville, cruised to a 16:30.6 to win the individual title. Only two runners broke 17 minutes.

Sydney Bollinger was 26th of 37 runners in the girls race, finishing in 26:58.1. Fort Frye's Cadence Waller won in 20:08.5.

Volleyball

New Lexington 25, 25, 25, Williamsport Westfall 13, 20, 12: Jerilyn Koehler totaled 10 kills with seven blocks and five digs to pace the Panthers to a nonleague win on the road.

Lizzie Ellis served up 29 assists and Chloe Dick and Gracie Newlon teamed for five aces; Abby Wilson had nine kills.

Brooklyn Burd had 10 kills and Emma Sole six with seven aces in New Lexington's three-set reserve win. Jorja Buckhart had 26 assists and Addison Wycinski 22 digs.

St. Clairsville 25, 25, 18, 22, 17, Philo 20, 20, 25, 25, 15: Aleigha Busse's 13 kills, two aces and 23 digs weren't enough for the Electrics in a marathon match at The Power Plant.

Olivia Winland had 19 kills and 19 digs, Briannah Wolfe seven kills with two blocks, Addyson Khune 23 assists and Delaney Carmichael 15 assists for the Electrics. Lauren Morehouse had five aces.

St. C took the reserve match, 14-25, 15-25. Olivia Fink's six kills and four aces led Philo.

Tri-Valley 27, 25, 25, 25, River View 25, 23, 27, 11: The Scotties (11-4, 8-3 MVL-Big) outlasted their northern rivals in a hard-fought MVL-Big School collision in Warsaw.

Eva Dittmar and Eva Dittmar combined for 38 kills — Dittmar collected 22 — and Kenzie Albertson served up seven aces, as Tri-Valley exacted revenge from an emotional five-set loss to the Lady Bears in Dresden.

Dittmar also had four blocks and Howe added four aces with a team-high 19 digs, while Ingrid Dittmar set up 38 assists with five kills, Annika Collet had five kills and Caity Journey 15 digs.

Kayla Dulgar produced another all-around showing with 10 kills, 26 assists, 15 digs and 100 percent serving for River View (9-7, 6-5), which also saw Alivia Spaulding total 12 kills, Haley Balo nine and Bailey Laudick eight. Cayla Shrimplin added 19 digs.

Tri-Valley took the reserve match, 25-21, 25-15.

John Glenn 25, 25, 25, Logan 22, 17, 14: It was a productive afternoon for the Muskies (7-8, 5-5), who leaned on 12 combined kills from Emma Briggs and Aleea Musselman to record a nonleague win against the Division I Chieftains.

Briggs had seven kills, three aces and eight digs and Musselman five kills with two aces and 13 digs, while Lauren Blair set up 20 assists and totaled seven digs.

Hannah DeMattio, EmmaDolan and Kara Fields had three kills for John Glenn; Sarah Wayne and Graceann Hitchcock combined for 15 digs.

Logan took the reserve match, 20-25, 18-25. Alaiah Johnson had eight digs and Haylee Young two kills with an ace for John Glenn.

Coshocton 25, 25, 25, East Knox 14, 16, 22: Lindsey Bryant had 11 kills and Jalynn West 24 assists for the Lady Skins in a nonleague match on the road.

Miyah Davis and Addy Gordon added three aces and Kenedi Jackson added four kills and nine digs for Coshocton (10-4); Saige Abbott added two kills and six kills.

New Lex 25, 25, 25, West M 13, 12, 14: Rebecca Strunk had six kills, three block assists and two block stuffs and Lucy Thorne made nine digs to lead the Tornadoes in Thursday's loss.

Liv Drabik added 14 assists and five points in the loss, while Lizzie Ellis had 23 assists, Jerilynn Koehler 12 kills and three blocks and Gracie Newlon five digs and five aces to pace New Lex.

Girls Soccer

Zanesville 7, Cambridge 0: Rylee McCuen piled up five goals for the visiting Lady Devils in a rout against the rival Bobcats.

Emma Williams and Ayanna Stewart also scored for Zanesville, while Reyna Dalton and Reagan Bailey combined to collect five saves at goal.

Zanesville hosts Licking Heights on Thursday.

Logan 5, John Glenn 1: The Division I Chieftains erupted for five unanswered goals in the second half to break open a scoreless match in a nonleague affair at home.

Breanna Sams, Kaylee Campbell, Dani Mahaffey, Claire Warren an Avery Cook-Porter had goals for Logan (5-5-1).

Becca Spohn scored off a pass from Abigail Matheney with 9:59 left to account for John Glenn's only score. Bean Sowers and Faith Lemon combined to make five saves on 10 shots.

The Muskies (6-4-2) next play on Thursday at West Muskingum.

Athens 4, Philo 0: The Electrics (1-10-0) dropped a nonleague match at the Philo Athletic Complex. Details were not available.

Rosecrans 7, Cols. Ready 1: The host Bishops rolled to a win at Mattingly Family Field to improve to 10-4-0.

Details were not reported.

Girls Tennis

Zanesville 4, Groveport-Madison 1: Rosie Toombs and Jersey Draugn recorded singles wins and the host Lady Devils took both doubles matches in a nonleague win.

Toombs won 6-3, 6-3, against Jillian Caldwell in No. 1 singles, and she also helped Chloe Buchanan win their doubles match against Evan Rhodes and Alissa Dia, 6-1, 6-0.

Draughn topped Hawa Thiam, 6-2, 6-2, in No. 2 singles, while Catherine Taylor and Blaire Lowe won by forfeit.

Groveport's lone win came at No. 3 singles, where Esther Elesum topped Kamrie Simon, 6-3, 6-3.

Zanesville hosts West Holmes for Senior Night at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
