The Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department air unit was on scene assisting Pomona PD. They made several attempts to call the suspect down from the hill to the officers. Pomona PD had closed both directions east and west on Mission Boulevard.

The suspect eventually started walking down the hillside around 10:45 a.m. with the rifle over his shoulder and an unidentified object in his hand. As he came down the hillside, he stopped and sat down for awhile, then proceeded walking with the rifle and another object. As more commands were heard from officers, the man then threw down the rifle, spread his arms out holding unidentified objects in each hand, then reached down for the rifle and continued to walk down the hillside.

As the suspect descended, he would stop or squat. At this point, the rifle was no longer visible. The SWAT vehicle then drove up to the suspect, where officers were seen speaking with him, but he turned away and starting walking up the hillside.

Pomona PD had a mental health officer at the scene who was communicating with the suspect. A K-9 Unit was also present.

After about 30 to 40 minutes, the suspect eventually made his way to the bottom of the hillside where he was seen speaking with a Pomona PD officer when other officers came from behind and placed the suspect into custody.
