Two people accused of robbing a man at gunpoint in a convenience store parking lot El Cajon were arrested Saturday evening after at least two other confrontations in the city, police said.

El Cajon police said they received a call shortly after 4:30 p.m. from a man who said he was robbed in a 7-Eleven parking lot on Madison Avenue at Chambers Street.

The victim said a man and a woman pointed a handgun at him, demanded money and then forced him into his car. He said the pair ordered him to drive to a parking lot on East Park Avenue near Cajon Valley Middle School, El Cajon Lt. Will Guerin said in a statement.

About 10 minutes later, police received another call about a fight outside an apartment building on Parkett Lane at Park Avenue, Guerin said. As the caller was speaking to police, an assailant — police said it was one of the people involved in the earlier robbery and kidnapping — pulled a knife on the caller and slapped her across the face.

Officers arrived minutes later and spoke to witnesses. One said he had confronted the assailants, one of whom had urinated in the complex pool and threatened him with a handgun.

Based on information from the witnesses, officers found the suspects in the courtyard of a nearby apartment complex and arrested them.

The suspects, both 18, were booked on suspicion of kidnapping, robbery, dissuading a victim by force and conspiracy, Guerin said. Police believe the case could be related to similar robberies reported in recent months.

Police said one of the suspects had a replica handgun and cash from the robbery victim. They said the other was carrying a concealed knife.

Police asked anyone with information on the case to call the El Cajon Police Department at (619) 579-3311.
