TALLAHASSEE — Jordan Travis completed 16 of 26 passes for a career-high 321 yards and a touchdown as Florida State dominated Boston College 44-14 on Saturday.

The Seminoles have opened 4-0 for the first time since 2015.

“Absolutely he’s one of the best quarterbacks in the country. I’ve been around a lot of good quarterbacks, and we have a special one here,” coach Mike Norvell said of Travis.

Trey Benson had a 93-yard kickoff return for a touchdown and he added a pair of touchdown runs (36 and 15). Former Pinellas Park standout Lawrance Toafili had a 1-yard touchdown run, his third scoring run of his season, and former Tampa Bay Tech standout Treshaun Ward had a 22-yard touchdown run.

Benson’s touchdown return, on the opening kickoff, was the first kickoff return for a touchdown by the Seminoles since Kermit Whitfield’s 100-yard return in the national championship game win over Auburn during the 2013 season.

Eagle coach Jeff Hafley had elected to defer to the second half.

“You can never kick the ball down the middle of the field and it went right down the middle of the field,” said Hafley. “We still should have got him down but it started with the kick and guys getting blocked and guys missing tackles.

“Clearly from the jump, the game started off bad. We didn’t coach good enough, we didn’t play good enough and we didn’t tackle good enough.”

FSU (2-0 ACC) has 12 rushing touchdowns in four games.

The Seminoles outgained the Eagles 530-235 yards.

Kentron Poitier went up to grab a 31-yard touchdown reception, the first score on his FSU career. Darion Williamson caught five passes for 98 yards, both of which are career highs. Ontaria Wilson’s 72-yard reception was FSU’s longest play of the year and his career long.

“They did a lot of what we prepared for and they are a huge game-plan team,” said Eagles linebacker Vinny DePalma. “They have a game plan for each opponent that is pretty similar.

“They dressed it up a little differently but it was still the base things we prepared for.”

FSU’s defense didn’t allow BC (1-3, 0-2) to cross midfield in the first half. The Eagles punted four times and Phil Jurkovec was picked off twice, once each by Omarion Cooper and Greedy Vance. BC finished with seven punts.

BC scored its first points late in the third quarter, when Jurkovec connected with Alex Broome on a 5-yard touchdown pass.

“What a night. What an incredible, incredible atmosphere,’’ Norvell said. “That’s what college football is about. Our fans, that was special.”
