Visit Owensboro reports: Convention center successfully operates with net profit

For the first time since being built in 2013, the Owensboro Convention Center broke records in Fiscal Year 2021 by finishing with a net profit.

Mark Calitri, president of Visit Owensboro credits this accomplishment to the teams at the center and cvb laser focusing on meetings, conventions, and maximizing new indoor sports events.

According to General Manager Jeff Esposito, the Convention Center outperformed its budget by $357,210.

2022 will set an all-time record for the number of hotel room nights generated, which doubled any of the previous years since the Owensboro Convention Center opened.

Visitors expressed positive reactions to Owensboro’s amazing riverfront scene, walkability to cool downtown restaurants and pubs, the vibrant music scene. Meeting planners pointed to safety as a key factor in choosing Owensboro to host their events.  

Owensboro City Manager Nate Pagan said that through the combined efforts of Visit Owensboro and the Convention Center, the 2021 fiscal year marked the first time the operation of the Convention Center was in the black since it’s been built.

Visit Owensboro reports the future looks bright and sales efforts have well positioned 2023.

These results demonstrate that meetings, conventions, and indoor sports are the keys to creating an economic impact to Daviess County and financial success at the Owensboro Convention Center.
