St. Bonaventure, N.Y. – (September 24, 2022) – The Fordham Rams put together a 90-minute barrage on the St. Bonaventure Bonnies on Saturday afternoon, scoring three second half goals for a 3-0 shutout victory in Atlantic 10 men's soccer action at the Marra Athletics Complex.
Fordham (3-1-4, 1-0-1 A10) put the Bonnies under plenty of pressure in the first half, posting nine shots, and five corner kicks at the St. Bonaventure net. St. Bonaventure goalkeeper Nicolas Pucci kept the game scoreless though, making five saves in the opening 45 minutes.
The Rams then broke through for three goals in the second half, starting in the 50
th minute.
Savvas Christoforou put a lead pass to
Adrian Valentine at the endline. Valentine crossed the ball back to the center of the box for
Ben Shepherd, who slotted a shot into the bottom left corner of the goal for a 1-0 lead. It was Shepherd's second goal of the season.
Fordham made it 2-0 in the 76
th minute, when
Florian Deletioglu was on a breakaway and was tackled in the box by Pucci, awarding a penalty kick to the Rams.
Jack Sluys stepped to the spot and converted for his first goal of the season.
The Rams then sealed the game away in the 77
th minute. Deletioglu was again on the rush, dishing a pass left for
Jed Dixon. Dixon's shot from 12 yards went up and over the keeper and just under the crossbar for his first career goal and the 3-0 victory.
In net,
Demetri Skoumbakis registered his third shutout of the season, posting two saves, while Pucci ended the match with six.
Fordham will have a short turnaround for their next contest, which will be Monday, September 26
th, at Rutgers, beginning at 7:00 PM.
