Clarence, N.Y. (WBEN) - A small single engine plane crashed into a heavily wooded area near the Clarence Aerodrome Saturday afternoon.
Amherst Fire Control reports an eyewitness nearby reported the pilot was trapped in the cockpit and had injuries but was alert and talking.
Swormville, Clarence Center and North Amherst fire crews responded and utilized off-road vehicles and other equipment to assist.
Crews worked to free the pilot and he was initially evaluated by medics from Twin City Ambulance and then transported to ECMC via Mercy Flight.
The Erie County Sheriffs Office had secured the scene and were awaiting the FAA and the NTSB.
