2022 El Paso Space Festival partnered up with EP Intl. for sustainability in space event

EL PASO, Texas - All week long, local space enthusiasts both young and old have been able to unite and share their love for science. On Friday, with a new partnership between Insights- the company that puts on the El Paso Space Festival, and the International Airport, a family-friendly event took place in the short-term parking lot at the airport.

This year's theme is Sustainability in Space- teaching those who are interested in the past, present, and future ways astronauts travel to space, and the things they do while they are there. Friday's event featured science tables with different focuses, such as solar energy, freeze-dried foods, robotics, and several other topics.

"I am thrilled with this turnout. the airport is one of our new partners. They asked, 'can we?' and we said 'absolutely'," said Brenda Trinidad, who is the Experience Curator for Insights.

"At the airport here, we want to support STEM education and STEM learning, so this is a really great event to get inspired and do something in the areas of aviation and technology," said Cassandra Davisson, the Marketing and Air Service Manager at El Paso International Airport.

A live DJ gave the event an upbeat nature paired with a color-changing dance floor, Star Wars characters, giants on stilts, mascots, and food trucks. But the event wasn't only for the kids:

Trinidad added, "It's another step that we can start figuring out how we can bring the experience of training and learning what it means to live on another planet at another level for the community as we introduce this to the parents and the kids."
