Goshen caps three days of tennis with Northern Lakes Conference crown

The Goshen boys tennis team put an exclamation point on its league season Saturday.

The RedHawks, who went unbeaten in Northern Lakes Conference regular season play, earned the conference tournament title too.

Coach Daniel Love's squad scored 51 points to outdistance runner-up Northridge (48) as the three-day tourney concluded at Warsaw High School.

Goshen won a pair of individual titles to highlight their team championship.

Isaac Stahly won the No. 3 singles title for Goshen and the No. 2 doubles team of Kyan Miller and Moses Kratzer also captured a championship.

Brendan LaCounte and Brandon Lomas won singles titles for Northridge. The Plymouth No. 1 doubles team of Matt Manzuk and Easton Strain also earned a league title.

Love, whose team was 7-0 in NLC dual matches, was selected as the NLC Coach of the Year.

Singles: 1. Brendan LaCounte (Northridge) beat Pi Wellington (Goshen) 6-1, 6-2. 2. Brandon Lomas (Northridge) beat Moses Sawatzky (Goshen) 6-7, 6-4, 6-3. 3. Isaac Stahly (Goshen) beat Kaleb Ellis (Northridge) 6-4, 6-4.

Doubles: 1. Matt Manzuk-Easton Strain (Plymouth) beat Braeden Messenger-Avery Johnson (Concord) 6-2, 4-6, 6-2. 2. Kyan Miller-Moses Kratzer (Goshen) beat Zak Martin-Nolan Mellott (Northridge) 7-5, 6-4.

Final Overall Standings: Goshen, Northridge, Plymouth, Concord, Warsaw, Wawasee, NorthWood, Mishawaka.
