The St. Vincent de Paul Family Kitchen in Johnstown is hosting their 2nd annual Sip Rock and Duck Drop event.
This event is an important fundraiser for the kitchen as they are trying to raise 40,000 dollars to repair their roof and parking lot.
The event also features live music, a duck drop raffle, as well as activities for kids and several food trucks.
Organizers highlight the importance of organizations such as theirs as fighting hunger has been a big issue in our community especially after the pandemic.
“It’s about compassion and loving our community and loving the people in our community," said Kristi Democko, co-chair of St. Vincent de Paul Family Kitchen. "It’s great to see people sponsor us especially since the pandemic. A lot of people lost a lot of money but they’re still willing to help the people that are less fortunate, and it means a lot to us.”
They also highlight the fact that the soup kitchen is open to anyone.
“Anybody can come to the soup kitchen for a meal," said Megan Foster, another co-chair of St. Vincent de Paul Family Kitchen. "They are not asked to provide any proof of income so anybody can walk in and get a meal for lunch.”
You can get a meal at the soup kitchen Monday through Friday 11:30am - 12:30pm and follow them on their Facebook page for future events.
