Fall Creek and Northside host the 14th annual Porchfest, after a two-year delay

“It’s been three years since the last Porchfest in Ithaca, and we’ve all been through some stuff,” said organizers of the annual neighborhood music festival as they announced last month that Porchfest would return on Sunday, September 25th. “It feels like we need a nice, big, outdoor community celebration more than ever before.”

Who’s playing?

There are “more than 150 performers playing in about a third of a square mile,” say Porchfest organizers. As always, Porchfest creates a scheduling challenge, as organizers schedule dozens of bands trying to ensure musicians that play in multiple acts have plenty of time to get between porches, and schedule dozens of porches trying to minimize noise overlapping.

Food and drink

Food vendors including Silo Food Truck, Silo Fry Stand, Fittnell Barbecue, and Cayuga Lake Creamery will be on West Marshall Street near North Cayuga Street, and Yxi’s Arepas, Adelina Pizza, and Luna Inspired Street Food will be at Auburn Park, on Auburn Street between Lewis and Tompkins Streets.

Restrooms are available at Tabernacle Baptist Church, St. Paul’s Church, and Northstar House, with porta-johns at Auburn Park, Thompson Park, and the Fall Creek School.

Porchfest street closures

We’re closing a few streets to traffic during Porchfest, where we’re placing food vendors or expect significant crowds. If you live on one of these blocks, consider parking your car on an open street nearby for the afternoon so you can come and go more easily:

• JAY STREET, from Cayuga to Tioga
• UTICA STREET, from Lincoln to Lewis
• YATES STREET, from Utica to Aurora
• YATES STREET, from Utica to Aurora
• E. MARSHALL STREET, from Utica to Aurora
• N. TIOGA STREET, from Tompkins to Farm
• N. AURORA STREET, from Tompkins to Farm
• W. MARSHALL STREET, and LAKE AVE from Marshall to Yates
• AUBURN STREET, from Jay to Dey
• ADAMS STREET, from Dey to Auburn
• W. LEWIS ST
• CASCADILLA AVE

Additionally, N. TIOGA STREET will be close from Farm to Court from 5-6 pm only, while Fall Creek Brass Band perform on the bridge.

There will be NO PARKING on W. MARSHALL STREET or on AUBURN STREET from Jay to Dey starting at 8:00 AM on Sunday, Sept. 25. This is so our food vendors can arrive and set up for the event. Vehicles still parked after 8:00 AM on Sept 25 may be towed.

Since Porchfest began in Ithaca in 2007, with 20 bands gathered by neighbors Gretchen Hildreth and Lesley Greene after they were inspired by some outdoor ukulele playing, at least 170 other locales have launched their own Porchfests around the United States and Canada. Trumansburg Porchfest was earlier this year.

The 14th annual Ithaca Porchfest will run from 12-6pm on Sunday, September 25th.
