Another COVID-19 related death reported in Marion County which remains at medium level for community spread

The Marion County Health Department has reported another COVID-19-related death.

Health Department Administrator Melissa Mallow says a female in her 80s who was not a long-term care resident and not vaccinated died while in the hospital.   The death was the 217th in Marion County since the pandemic began.

Mallow has announced six Marion County congregate care facilities are on outbreak status.   One facility had 37 positives, another 21, and a third ten.  The others have two, five, and nine residents testing positive.

Marion County remains at the medium community spread level.   There were 48 new cases for the week ending Thursday, a 20-percent drop from the prior week.  There were four new hospitalizations.

Two area counties are at the high community spread level.  Jefferson County had 49 new cases in the past week, a 32-percent drop, but also had seven new hospitalizations.   Wayne County had 19 new cases, a 30-percent decline, and three new hospitalizations.   They are among only three counties in the state at the high level.  The third is Ford County in the east-central part of the state.

Clinton County remains at the low level.   They had 53 new cases, a ten-percent decline, and two new hospitalizations.

Two other area counties are at the medium level.  Fayette County had 38 new cases, a nine percent increase, and two new hospitalizations.  Washington County had less than 10 new cases, a 42-percent decline, and two new hospitalizations.

Statewide, the Illinois Department of Public Health is reporting 17,373 new confirmed and probable cases of COVID-19 with 62 deaths since September 16th.

As of Thursday night, 1.069 individuals in Illinois were reported to be in the hospital with COVID-19.  Of those, 147 were in the ICU and 40 patients with COVID-19 were on ventilators.
