BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) - Birmingham Police said one man has life-threatening injuries after an officer-involved shooting on September 24.

Police said that officers received a call of a domestic disturbance in the 2400 block of 30th Street Ensley. Authorities said that a father was having a disagreement with his son, and he wanted the son to be removed from the home.

Officers responded to the area, working to deescalate the situation. Police say the son, described as a male in his early 20′s, then went to a back room, and brandished a firearm at police. That’s when he was shot by one of the officers.

The male was take to UAB Hospital with life-threatening injuries. No officers were injured, and the father was also uninjured.

The State Bureau of Investigation is the lead investigating agency in this shooting. Both officers were taken out of service, and will be out of service until the investigation is finished.

Both officers activated their body cameras through the incident.
