Two people are dead after a collision involving a motorcycle and a vehicle near Sweetwater Road and 35th Avenue in Phoenix on Friday.

Firefighters arrived and extinguished the fire that ignited from the crash before treating a woman and 11-year-old boy, according to Captain Scott Douglas, a spokesperson for the fire department.

According to Phoenix police, the woman had been a passenger on the back of the motorcycle. The man driving the motorcycle was pronounced dead at the scene. Police later identified the man as 37-year-old Elijah Hoffman.

“The SUV was operated by an adult male who stayed on scene and is cooperating with police, alcohol is not suspected at this time,” said Sgt. Brian Bower, a spokesperson for Phoenix Police Department.

The boy, who was a passenger in the SUV was taken to the hospital as a precaution, according to Bower.

Phoenix police announced Saturday morning that the woman later died while being treated at the hospital. Her identity was not released.
